Emmett Ng’s journey into Contemporary Dance began at the age of 17, where his passion for the art form quickly flourished. His dedication saw him embark on numerous immersive dance experience in Taiwan, allowing him to deepen his technical and creative understanding. Under the mentorship of renowed choreographer Dan Kwoh, Emmett developed a unique choreographic voice, which has continued to shape his career as both a dancer and choreographer.
While studying Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney, Emmett remained actively engaged in the dance scene, training with the prestigious Sydney Dance Company and working as a freelance choreographer for various arts festivals. His drive to expand his artistic horizons led him to complete a Performance Studies course at New York University, enhancing his ability to fuse different disciplines and broaden his creative scope in choreography and performance.
Emmett’s choreographic career gained significant recognition when his debut professional piece, created for Sprouts 2014, was selected to be presented at the Barcelona Dance Grand Prix, where he secured 1st prize in Contemporary Small Group. His innovative choreography continued to earn top honors at esteemed international platforms, including the World Ballet Grand Prix, International Grand Prix, and Masterpiece International Grand Prix. These accolades reflect his growing influence in the world of contemporary dance, where his works consistently stand out for their artistry and technical sophistication.
Today, Emmett continues to push the boundaries of contemporary dance, sharing his expertise as a choreographer and educator. His ability to inspire and nurture young talent has led his students to achieve numerous distinctions in national competitions, while his direction of large-scale productions showcases his vision and leadership in the performing arts. Emmett’s commitment to his craft and his ability to create captivating, award-winning works make him a respected figure in both the local and international dance communities.
