Sophie Lim
Teacher & Programme Executive
Sophie has been dancing since the age of 4 and has gained many years of dance experience and exposure to a variety of dance genres ranging from Classical Ballet, Contemporary dance, Jazz and Tap. Under the tutelage of Ebelle Chong while schooling at CHIJ Katong Primary School, she gained interest in Contemporary dance thus joining School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) in 2016. Through SOTA, she received many performance opportunities such as "Off" choreographed by Adele Goh in collaboration with Sascia Pelligrini in Becoming 2019.
Sophie was a member of TRDO Second Company since 2019, training under Ryan Tan and Clarice Ng. She had the privilege to be in TRDOco’s commissioned work for National Arts Council and Got To Move SG, “To Or Not”, an interactive dance film (2021).
In January 2020, Sophie continued her training and studies at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) for her Diploma in Dance while being under the NAFA Scholarship for SOTA Students (Diploma). She was under the tutelage of dance artists such as Goh ShouYi, Yarra Ileto, David Zeitner, Xia Haiying, Dr Filomar Cortezano Tariao and many others. While in NAFA, she was involved in many productions, working with choreographers such Christina Chan, Kuik Swee Boon, Son Yu Joung, Dan Kwoh and Zhuo Zihao. In late 2020, Sophie was nominated and selected for the NAFA Talent Development Programme. In 2022, She graduated from NAFA with a Distinction and made Dean's list every semester.
In May 2022, Sophie joined DANSTUDIO as a teacher and programme executive. She has choreographed Contemporary and Lyrical solos and troupes for competitions in which many of her students achieved numerous awards and scholarships. In June 2022, She participated in Masterpiece International Ballet Competition, where she clinched the Grand Prize Award with a self-choreographed solo and was awarded a scholarship for a summer intensive from The School of Ballet Theatre UK. Sophie is also currently a Dance CCA instructor at CHIJ Katong Primary, Methodist Girls School Primary and Eunoia Junior College. In 2024, she choreographed and presented her first Singapore Youth Festival work for CHIJ Katong Primary and Methodist Girls School Primary in which both schools received Distinction for their performance.
Sophie hopes to impart to her students proper technique in contemporary dance and to inspire in them a love and appreciation for the art form.
